Cartography and World Building

It started with my love of Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. My quest to make the perfect fan-map took me to the Cartography Guild's forum, where I learned a lot about mapping and world building in general. The things I've learned there have been surprisingly helpful in many of my creative projects since then! I can't express enough what a cool group of people the Cartography Guild is and how cool their favorite tools are!

My most recent cartography project; A map of my cousin, Brittany Clarke's, world for a novel she's writing, and also the setting for a tabletop RPG she's running.

This is the mod map my team and I are creating for Ark: Survival. I created this using simple black and white 2D fractals, Photoshop, ZBrush, Wilbur and going back and forth a few times between all of them.

Neither Earth DEM data, or World Machine, were used to make this topography. I created this fictional equirectangular map using height-maps from lower res extra-terrestrial bodies, Photoshop, G. Projector and Wilbur exclusively.
